The geographical expression Las America Tenerife stands for the same name written with a "S" at the end.
The latter is the correct way to call it in proper Spanish which is Castellano Spanish.

So why do you hear young and old locals as well as tourists refer incorrectly to one of Tenerife areas which has become so wanted?
Well, this is not one of language secrets for most native Tinerfeños, because most learned Spanish in school.

It's typical for the Tenerife Spanish language to be used differently, like done on other Canary isles, too, which only defer in their Guanche word inheritance.

Locals and above all the fashionable young have their own way of spoken language where consonants at the end of nouns are omitted in 99% of cases.

That name in question which places towns like Los Christianos, Costa Adeje and Arona as well as many little villages and resorts in the same spot alludes to South American and Caribbean beaches.

By the way, there is also a town right there which carries the same name like the spectacular beaches which makes it all a little confusing, especially, for motor car drivers.

The modern name Las America which represents a town, a region as well as many beaches close by soon became fashionable in its shortened language version with almost everybody. Meantime, the old Guanche expression Adeje is also used for the whole district.

Dance clubs and bars followed suite and reinforced the fame of this part of Tenerife by a name referring to the continent discovered by the likes of Cortez which is rich in South American and other music.

Young foreign tourists by Tenerife south western sea shores started to mingle with locals by the sound of Cuban and Costa Rican songs, Spanish guitars as well as drums including Rock and Roll. They quickly adapted the expression which is disputed here.

The shortened language version without the letter S became an "international household name" for a whole region of southern beach fronts of the biggest of all Canary Islands. There, they, always, had Tenerife sun on beaches or, artificially, in discos.

There, action and fun never stopped.

The word's cousin where the letter S is omitted was the easiest word combination to remember for the highly fun filled part of Tenerife Island and engraved itself in foreigners' minds, fast.
