Tenerife business Spain by a shrewd monk and what it's like in 2009.
Tenerife Business made history at Monasterio Montañeta (monastry little mountain)in XVIII and it didn't stop, then. An elderly man who always sits on a bench below my balcony told me this story:
The monk Antonio el Gomero (man from Gomera) was a historical, fabled Tenerife businessman, long ago. Before he had business success, he combed the Island Tenerife. He not only looked around, while mounted on his mule, while his servant trotted behind him. He had business in mind. He also wanted to find the right spot for it. The Gomeran was sure to detect it on the the biggest of all Canary Islands. He was one of first remarkable business pioneers on the small isle Tenerife, which looked big to him compared to La Gomera. With much cunning he managed to get donations from even poor people for the farmstead (finca) and monastry, he had set out to built. He told all, it would be in honor of the Virgen de Candelaria, (Holy Mary de Candelaria)which is a Black Madonna. Donations included wine as well. Grape harvest times were best suited for his collections. Wine, a trump card of Spain economy now and then, could be sold or bartered for other goods or services. The servant helped him with this Tenerife fund raising business. He also managed to fill his cellar with the liquid gold from religious 'Believers'. He quickly built himself a bodega. All monasteries have them, you know. Only, we may be sure with el Gomero that he made money with it. The El Monasterio is born:By the way, foundations of monk Antonio's finca (farmstead) and monastery were laid in 1788. The bodega must have been constructed first. It was easy, as it could be put into a rather semi- open cave. You still find it in there today. Only now, the posh Restaurant Hacienda San Juan is part of it. It's rather likely that this name dates back to the monk. What a beautiful, interesting aspect of business history Tenerife, you have to agree... Together with 2 partners from Los Realejos the religious man also branched out. He started an interesting business venture between Tenerife and the Island Lanzarote. If he lived today, he would have started a business franchise, I would bet.
The top Tenerife business monk died in 1811, leaving behind a business legacy. Meantime the finca (farmstead) was called by everybody Little mountain of the clever monk or Montañeta del Fraile. Now, one says:'Montañeta Monasterio'. When the monk was alive, nobody dared calling his lands a business estate. He was supposed to be a holy man, you know..Over the centuries, the estate of the former monk changed hands a few times and was home to good families. Last not least, one of the latter introduced a small Spanish restaurant business. It was operating until the 1980ies. Later, the result of modern Tenerife business ideas was Parque Monasterio, the Monasterio amusement park as follows: Business company Columbus SA:In 1990, Columbus SA took over and brought the estate which is also called El Monasterio to the next Tenerife business level by transforming the whole place to perfection. 3 years later, a theme park with nature reserve, farm animals, highly attractive restaurants and Bodegas was born. Investment for a new business trend was worth it, as this farmstead had an aura of Canary Island history and Tenerife culture, already. It only needed improving with more details and attractive restaurants to fit into its theme. In fact, innovative business people had the right ideas to turn an abandoned farmstead into a lucrative Tenerife business. Since 13th of September 1993 the Monasterio Park La Montañeta has also been drawing celebrities from all fields. They all improved the image of this business enterprise. The business venture Monasterio, eventually, became known as one of top Tenerife attractions. It has been labeled 'tops' in the north of the island, in any case. Also now, the amusement park firm adds culture to its surroundings in Tenerife North. It provides employment and makes locals as well as tourists happy. Little kids adore it. For them and all others - the park of the monk is free to enjoy... The brain child of the Monasterio business is said to be a German couple, which is part of Columbus SA. This company also manages Lago Lido Martianez Tenerife on Paseo San Telmo off Avda. Generalisimo, renamed to Avda.Familia Bethencourt y Molina in 2008/2009. More about Tenerife gastronomy business:
Columbus SA owns other Tenerife business besides El Monasterio, such as: Rancho Grande, also by the same beach front of Puerto de la Cruz North Tenerife. They are proprietors of Columbus Restaurant and, the Pinguino Ice Cream Parlor, right at Plaza del Charco Puerto de la Cruz hub by corner street C/Quintana, The same directors of the Monasterio are also the owners of Café Paris opposite Lido Martianez. I know all those facts because, friends of mine worked for Columbus SA. Columbus SA owns all restaurants at the Monasterio to the best of my knowledge, but some of them may be sublet. Most shut their doors during summer 2009 for restoration which may have happened due to recession. Find out by going from Tenerife business to Tenerife restaurants news to learn about business efforts of this sector... German business Tenerife:The era of German business people, who greatly contributed to Tenerife business and the Spain economy also lists the owner of Loro Parkwho also created Siam Park in Tenerife South. Except for Siam Park, all those businesses are in the oldest Tenerife resort Puerto de la Cruz. Tenerife business and its history:Tenerife history Puerto de la Cruz looked promising due to news of March 2008 for town improvements, which were to help its tourism and business. The Santa Cruz history of Tenerife's capital is of course much related to its island and marine interests. Its import and export have been priorities until now. Tenerife contract labor industry: This has been big business in Tenerife construction of real estate above all. Unemployment in this field is still rising since end of 2008. By the way, contract labor for short terms is high on the agenda of Tenerife. It's OK, if you are only looking for restaurant work in a specific season. Advertising and marketing Tenerife This field has still room for improvement to learn from countries like the USA and Canada. Advertise online for your business in Tenerife or Business Spain to fight recession... Tenerife commerce Santa Cruz: The Santa Cruz history of Tenerife's capital is of course much related to its island and marine interests. Its imports and exports have been priorities, ever since. Interesting for business is also the capital's free port. The port or free-port could lead to more Tenerife business partnerships. Once, I had a long conversation with a German business consultant called Manfred Deckner. Somewhere, I still have some emails, we exchanged on this subject, too. I know from my past and my knowledge of Durban harbor, which is not a free port, that harbors lend themselves to big business. However, Tenerife business opportunities are definitely diminished in this sector, since the island has become part of the European Union. Besides, Santa Cruz harbor is business rival of the free port of Las Palmas of Gran Canaria. Many will declare the latter of bigger importance. Tenerife banana and tomato exports: Subsidized bananas and tomatoes are still exported but hardly to the European Union which has those crazy grade standards which peaked at the end of last century. Tenerife produce cannot make the grade on a large scale. When it can, it will be rather with tomatoes. However, it's hard for Tenerife to stand up against business competitors like Marocco in that field. Marocco has cheaper labor to start with and better suited climate to grow the commodity. Tenerife's tomato shade houses contribute very much to business cost. Tenerife industry and Tenerife tourism: On a more general footage, it needs to be emphasized that tourism is Tenerife's biggest business, where golf plays a major role. There is hardly any other industry worth mentioning. Once, I asked my Tenerife IT professor, if Tenerife didn't have something special in way of production to show for. He answered: 'Yes, sure, it does, sons are produced on this island of mine.' In good Spanish this means translated. 'Claro que si, se producen hijos en esta isla mia!' Those were his exact words. Quite funny, isn't it or not? Tenerife oil refinery: There is an oil refinery by the capital Santa Cruz which poured some suspect stuff into the ocean at one stage. A newspaper reported on it. The pollution is history, now. Tenerife fishing industry: This island has a long history of fishing which started with the conquest of the island. But apart from, catching, cleaning, packing and freezing the fish in fishing factories on the ocean, there is nothing much productive about it. Right? It is hunter gathering on modern terms. Airline business Tenerife: Business Spain is rather involved with airlines for Tenerife. However, I remember a picture with Mr. Kiesling, directing manager of Loro Park, in a German newspaper. It showed him as a big body of Tui, the important German tour operator. It is natural that big business holders become business partners, eventually. By the way, the Tenerife airports are not charging airport taxes for winter 2008/2009 to help recession and to attract more travelers. Farm business Tenerife in the Middle Ages:Another place which plays back to the times of the monk is Casa del Patio where the monk possibly passed by on its fund raising tours. Casa del Patio was merely a middle age style farm, as far as we know. It was feudal Tenerife farming business. Tenerife wine growing, a locally orientated business: There is quite a bit of wine cultivated around Icod de los Vinos, Tacoronte and el Sauzal as well as by La Orotava but, it's not really for Tenerife export business any more. Cruise ships: The bunking of cruise ships is more of promotional Tenerife business value. Anyway, such vessels also never brought in much foreign exchange business of significance. Tenerife foreign money exchange:Foreign exchange was better before the introduction of the Euro, anyway. This ended in 2001. Exports to Asia and America are also not worth mentioning. It is the other way around, rather. Tenerife needs to bring in most of its luxury commodities. Indian shops, big malls and stores Tenerife:Indian shops are much involved in the electronics retail business. However, Corte Inglés and companies like Saturn, Carrefour and Alcampo take up a large chunks of that business cake, as well. Tenerife banks and cajas:The difference between the 2 is that Tenerife cajas are not represented in other countries. Have a look at a long list of those financial institutions Tenerife on a Spanish site... Banco de Santander is a Spain Tenerife bank which is most represented overseas, such as in the UK and in South America. The biggest of all Canary Islands was involved in hedge fond business and most of all in real estate as a prime Tenerife business.
