What are Spanish News about Tenerife restaurants? How do they cope with new travel trends, travel package deals and recession of the Spain economy?

More than 102 Tenerife restaurants are in the oldest resort of the island in Puerto de la Cruz, alone.

You know, streets of mainland Spain, the Spanish Canary and Balearic Islands are almost plastered by restaurants and their smaller cousins, the bars, bistros, inns and bodegas... They must all play their part to avoid even a small economy crisis, such as happened in Tenerife.

Some of them were closing down, lately. Others open only Thursdays to Sundays. Gastronomy business liquidations are part of Spanish news, which leave the restaurant industry preoccupied. The Spain economy has changed, indeed. 'Se traslada' is written on mainland Spain and all types of Tenerife restaurants.

Restaurant liquidations and Spain marketing research news:

'Se traslada' means in this case most often that the owner of such a business is still looking for a buyer after he stopped serving food and drink. By the way, go around and speak to their owners... The amount of money they want for the business of Spanish restaurants or their gutted premises has hardly changed since the time before the recession. I know, as my Spanish friend Cesar went around doing such inquiries in April 2009.

Cesar gave my quite a head ache with this, as he wanted me to join him in a new restaurant venture. Hence, this is why I did my own marketing research on Tenerife restaurants in Spain. Finally, friend Cesar is considering a retail business, now.

tenerife restaurants restaurante la miranda One of Tenerife Restaurants which closed in 2008, is Restaurant La Miranda in Puerto de la Cruz. It was one of most matured pearls of the Spanish business of gastronomy.

Suddenly Restaurante Miranda, as called by Spaniards, started losing its sparkle.

How can a place in a good location end up attracting less visitors?

Besides, excellent Spanish cuisine as well as best service were some of its attractions.

Did it change its cooks? Did it apply new strategies of restaurant management?

Travel package deals:

flower seller outside restaurant Miranda for Spanish news I chatted with a nice local flower seller, a lady who was moved to Calle Quintana, shortly after that.

"The owner of Restaurante Miranda is old ", the flower lady told me. "He doesn't want to go on. Hotels take all business away. They keep tourists inside with their buffets, already included in the travel price."
She also whispered to me that, although closed up, La Miranda is for sale now with lock, stock and barrel.

The Travel package deals are indeed much to blame for reduced business Spain of private restaurants. That's not the only reason, of course...

By the way, later I heard rumors that a buyer was found for the Miranda.

"Look at Buffets Apartments Girasol! That's closed, too!" the flower lady, also, said.

I've checked this. Cheap Girasol Buffets are not on offer, any more..

Also, modern travel trends have changed over the last couple of years. People profit from cheap flights Tenerife to take as little as one week holidays. Some come back for golf tournaments only or to tank Canary Island sun. Their hotel meals are almost always included on Spain tours nowadays.

plaza doctor v.perez for Tenerife restaurants Another one of the island's restaurants, which went off the map is the Restaurant Bar of Hotel Principe in Calle Quintana. It was in one of the oldest Tenerife hotels in Puerto de la Cruz. The restaurant's ground floor veranda was part of charming Plaza Dr.Victor Perez. We went there to have drinks almost every night during our holiday in 1997. This restaurant was in a top tourist location, very close to the town's central square, Plaza del Charco de los Camarones.

Restaurant and bar as well as the entire Hotel de los Principes have been shut down. The harp player has vanished, of course.

Restaurante Los Olivos:

One more of Tenerife restaurants called Restaurant Los Olivos is off the list of good eats.

Don't try make reservations for Restaurant Los Olivos of Tacoronte... It sealed its doors. The owner Sabine of Restaurante Calabacín in C/Uruguay 12, in Puerto de la Cruz told me, this was the only place her husband, the grand cook Mr.Hartmann, and herself used to love when not eating their own culinary creations. You will wonder if all those Spanish restaurants closures are due to travel package deals and recession as well.

Also, Clarets Restaurant which had many fans in Chayofa, closed its doors.

News Spain restaurants closure for holiday break:

Restaurant La Hacienda San Juan and others of Meson el Monasterio are closed for holidays during May and June 2009, except its Restaurant El Mirador View and the Monasterio Patio Restaurant. Tel: Meson Monasterio Reservations +34 922 344311.

Restaurant mistakes:

front of cafe berlin restaurant puerto de la cruz

Cheap Tenerife Restaurant Café Berlin mistakes:

Café Berlin is in Calle Venezuela. Notice boards for specials outside the restaurant in the photo... This is one of cheap Tenerife restaurants 1 minute from Lago Martianez. Last year, I ate 2 times at the Berlin and found its food extremely salty. At this restaurant with the name of the German capital one could eat very well for decades. Its Schnitzel was one of the best. I learned from Sabine, its owner used to cook himself very often in the past. Should you want to like to sample its cuisine, take it with a pinch of salt... This means, tell the waiter to serve your meal 'con poco sal' which means in English to take it easy on salt...

Bad business management by the following restaurant firms?

Restaurante El Duende restaurant:

The previously much celebrated Spanish Restaurante El Duende in La Vera had deteriorated. Recently, I was told, it recovered and improved its restaurant management. Again, it serves its renown good quality for fine dining. Who knows, may be the owners were disillusioned for a while because of effect of package holidays to Tenerife. But life goes on for Tenerife restaurants, too, After easy times come troubled times and again easy times. Therefor, no reason to lose hope...

No doubt, Tenerife restaurants think, they do everything to survive in a changed Spain economy. However, many people are not going out in Tenerife, as much as they did. The recession, including its paranoia, you know... Nevertheless, there a so many with a self contained holiday home in Tenerife. Who wants to cook, while on vacation, all the time?

Tenerife restaurants Restaurant El Molino Blanco Please, note, some in the gastronomy business dismissed waiters in low seasons...This fired back...

This may have happened at Restaurant El Molino Blanco, Avda.Austria,5 San Eugenio Alto by Arona Costa Adeje, Tel:922 796 282. New staff of El Molino Blanco Restaurant didn't seem to have much of a clue. The restaurant's service was criticized much. El Molino Blanco had a good name for its quality of Spanish food, before. It's to be expected that the attendance and cuisine of Restaurante El Molino Blanco has fully recovered, buy now.

Restaurante Amerinca event restaurant with best north Tenerife tapas of 2007:

Suddenly in August 2008, Restaurant Amerinca was closed. Besides its huge size and slightly disadvantaged business location the general world wide recession didn't help the fantastic eating and music show event place. Its own concerts returned to the road again as you may follow up in events Tenerife.

Spain economy and recession in Tenerife business:

Even local people abandon their age old Spanish traditions of eating out every week-end. They don't even go to Guachinches much, as before. Many of them are the once wealthy constructors and architects, who only frequented better inns and high class eating places.

Also, unemployment figures in Spain are rising. They were 17,36 % by April 2009, as per headlines of Spanish newspapers. Many restaurant waiters have already lost jobs. Workers and students of La Laguna university are alarmed. They are putting up banners on street and shop walls to draw attention by the Cabilde government in Tenerife as well as Spain government. Tenerife's tourist industry is not spared by world recession. This adds up to 3 important points, when you include travel package deals. The additional point, not in the Tenerife restaurants' favor is not enough or not good enough restaurant marketing.

What restaurant marketing is done in the Spanish gastronomy in Tenerife, so far?

Special Tenerife restaurants started to buy publicity in local radio channels. They advertise in Spanish newspapers. Gradually a new restaurant employment market became the fashion. How? Students and even some of the elderly found work by it to distribute lunch and supper fliers to potential hungry tourists in streets. Meantime, many restaurant owners see to it that their Tenerife cuisine is improved. More and more add vegetarian dishes to cater for different customers. Some redecorate restaurant interiors. More and more restaurant entertainment is added at dinner times.

One of new Tenerife restaurants in La Paz Puerto de la Cruz came up with the following marketing idea: Story and poetry readings are a new restaurant marketing strategy in this high class inn, once a month. I fear, this Spanish restaurant entertainment is only for those who understand or speak Spanish well. Anyway, the news about it are already public.

A fantastic marketing idea which would make big Spanish news for Tenerife restaurants to fight recession:

A friend of mine, James Clark, who is a well known tenor by modern operas, an American expat in Germany, by the way, was employed for a while to sing at a restaurant in Munich, Germany. This restaurant staged kind of a thriller opera with a murder case, while restaurant guests had dinner. This innovative gastronomy business idea, almost, included diners in the play. Just figure, the main suspect walked around their tables while singing his part! It was presented in a series. This made people come back to the restaurant for its great fun.
Brilliant, isn't it? Certainly, an adapted restaurant marketing idea like that would make big Spanish news in Tenerife. The idea is also good for breaking news on mainland Spain, of course.

Learn restaurant marketing from Restaurante Palmeras Arte:

Restaurant Palmeras Arte, one of my favorite best Tenerife restaurants, has used a brilliant marketing strategy in the past. They used to do restaurant marketing with fantastic free Spanish food tapas during art exhibitions, they sponsored. Certainly, the restaurant always announced such art events in all local newspapers, where the exhibitions were featured as Spanish news.

Tenerife news for new eating trends hosted by restaurants:

Several La Paz restaurants in Puerto de la Cruz as well as Mesón El Monasterio joined in a new Tenerife restaurants trend for charity. The first involved was Restaurante Orchidea. A handsome check made possible by more than 60 philanthropists went to Apanate, a society for autistic children in the Orotava region, Tenerife north. Call Susan at tel: 0034 + 922 368088 to find out about future restaurant events for charity.

Restaurant Restaurante la Esentzia for charity Tenerife All last named Puerto de la Cruz restaurants involved in charity are known for good or fine dining, such as the new Restaurante La Estantzia of La Paz by its main road opposite Canary Center. They all do their utmost to provide special entertainment, to the best of my knowledge. How many more will follow the new trend to help fight recession and for helping the needy?

Do restaurant marketing like in Johannesburg and USA:

Promote Spanish food by giving away free food like Spanish Paella on a Spanish holiday, when many people are near a certain eating house. Ideal for any restaurant near a fiesta festival parade... Have a Tenerife restaurant inauguration with free food to get known for your quality food and good prices. Do free food days as done for a chicken franchising in USA... Publish free food days like an event in newspapers...

Are the new strategies enough to uplift business Spain for restaurants?

No, they are not. Often tourists don't even know what and where to eat best. It's all those who might have booked a holiday home in Tenerife outside towns or anyway distant from best eating places.

Use web advertisement which is very effective for Tenerife restaurants in Spain...

Besides, Internet advertising for Spanish restaurants is cheaper than printing publicity, employing flier distributors and using local radio stations. Never mind TV, you know...

Just figure, I would not have found my luck at Restaurante Calabacín. My dear friend Marie Kharmen, the owner of the clothes repair shop Don Dedol Express, Local 6, Calle Venezuela, 11 in the old gallery, praised this restaurant so much. Mind this secret eating nook is almost next door. Had it been in the right spot in the Internet, I would have discovered it, a long time ago. I would have made it one of my favorite Spanish restaurants in Tenerife.

Please, go from Tenerife restaurants to advertise online, but have fun, first and learn marketing with a twist, leading to marketing strategies to help you best...
