Amazing weather in Tenerife with images to prove it.

Winter Weather in Tenerife on my balcony Weather in Tenerife, to see to believe!

On Wednesday after two days of wind, the sun was indeed shining again.

I was asking to take Tenerife weather bets!. But, nobody challenged me.

Anywyay, that's how fast even the nastiest weather in Tenerife or in the Canary Islands is changing, as a rule.

Look at the photo shown on the right, which I took by 10a.m.on December 2010, 3 days after the storm and rains.

Certainly, there is plenty sun in north Tenerife.

North Tenerife December afternoon sun test Contemplate the next picture depicting an ocean view of a small section of La Orotava Bay...

I named this smaller image North Tenerife December afternoon. I took this picture yesterday by about 5.p.m., December 01, 2010...Notice the same balcony spot where the sun doesn't cast its shadow any more, such as on the previous photo. However, south west skies in direction of La Palma were still blue at that time. So much to winter weather in Tenerife North for Puerto de la Cruz, La Orotava, Los Realejos and more.

Well, there was no Tenerife cyclone on November 29, right after the November festival fiesta San Andres 2010 Puerto de la Cruz with temperatures above 24 degrees Celsius at night. In fact. Tenerife cyclons are rather unheard of.

Modern appliances and Tenerife nature:

Tenerife weather November 29, 2010:

I found it unsafe to walk in the road in the morning of the 29th of November, 2010. I had to go back home; the wind almost blew me away and too many obstacles were flying around.

Yet, the weather conditions were not unnatural. Nevertheless, it wouldn't have been wise to walk any Los Realejos streets.

Cut lamppost storm damage Tenerife Unless for beeing hit by falling obstacles, of course... Heavy wind had been rattling a Christmas decoration attached to a slender, modern 8 meter high pole by a street corner. The huge metal frame with Christmas led lights had enormous leverage and was bound to cause disaster. Continuous wind banged it long enough until the pole snapped and broke clean off on the bottom.

See it to believe it!

Look at this cut lamppost, depicted beside. It was felled like a tree by wind by the corner of my house in La Longuera.
As said above, the heavy outside Christmas decorations street led lights were to blame.

How can the public help?

The observant house owner of the La Teteria Bar of La Longuera no.60 on the opposite side of the road attached the same decoration from another lamp pole to its balcony. This kept the lamp stand quite still. Certainly, he could help to prevent more disaster. A nice person, indeed...

Weatherproof outside Christmas decorations Tenerife:

By the way, Tenerife has some fanstastic outside Christmas decorations, as shown by the individual one used by a high class Puerto de la Cruz restaurant. Much of the island's decor looks different this year. So was the one which had been hung on street lamps. Just figure... Would you think it isn't weatherproof? I say that they took chances by the way the hung it and -- some is still out there.

Street led lilghts attached to lamp posts Tenerife Here the street led lights of another lamppost have only been slightly displaced by 10 meters further on by another road corner.

I noticed three of them down on my block. One by Restaurant la Finca Los Realejos was even shown in TV news for Tenerife. Anything light where screws were too small or had rusted had come detached by winds. Winds had fun tipping and emptying municipal trash bins. They had been half open on top. An invitation to havoc for weather in Tenerife, really...

Restaurante La Finca Restaurant Los Realejos Longuera Tenerife

By midafternoon on Tuesday November 30, 2010, dead tree and lamppost outside Restaurante La Finca as shown above, are still there. Both are not in the way of traffic and may be cleaned up later. I was lucky to capture this more believable scene, as the Tenerife rains had already stopped. The photo almost belittles weather in Tenerife. The accident is not very emphasized, as the lampstand look flimsy. Believe me that it is a rather sturdy metal object which could have killed, if it had fallen onto a car!

Incredible Tenerife storm?

Nope, it was only a storm with partly very strong winds. Nothing new about them. Perhaps, they come more frequently everywhere now because of global warming.

Plastic, wind, weather and the environment:

It is bad enough to see huge peaces of plastic going high up into the air by some gale like wind. They almost rose straight up like USA battle craft Stelt Fighters.
Poor whales of Los Gigantes and and many a rare sand shark of Tenerife may get more than indigestion by plastic.

Tenerife property and household insurance:

However, there is no guaranty to prevent storm damage caused by weather in Tenerife. It is rare enough, mind you! Weather is bound to bring seasonal introductions everywhere on our globe. They may even be seen as exciting to some extent.

Southwesterly winds Tenerife:

One of best locations to study weather in Tenerife north:

In fact, the winds came from southwest. Southwesterly gale force winds are the most ferocious for Tenerife and the Canary Islands Spain. I could make out the wind direction by the strong foamy white ocean currents. A bit scary for us who respect the sea...By the way, the view from my balcony of holiday home Tenerife and my studio Tenerife apartment above la Orotava Bay are ideal to observe and predict Tenerife weather.

Red alert weather warnings by the media and aviation:

There was also red alert for the Canary Islands given by the weather reports in local television as far back as 5 days before the storm, by the way.

Spain rtv television forecasted Tenerife winds of more than 150km per hour.

Even my neighbour's son in law who studies in Germany to become a pilot had aviation weather warnings regarding Canary Islands and Tenerife.

Tenerife weather building precautions:

Therefor, mind very much possible bad weather on south westsides when you build your holiday home in Tenerife. Place verandas and balconies rather in a different spot, which is not totally exposed to elements in that direction. Or put a protecting wall, if you can...

Blue skies TFS Reina Sofia airport and who would expect clouds and windy winter weather Tenerife?

Weather in Tenerife by Reina sofia TFS airport I took blue skies of November weather in Tenerife for granted when arriving there on November 14, 2010.

Admire the picture book scenes taken by me on camera on the Tenerife South Airport Reina Sofia... Mind how people are dressed for winter holidays with its obviously very mild sunny weather weather in Tenerife! I arrived there from a cloudy cool Belgium and was delighted by the surprising good climate.

Airport TFS and TFN weather:

Flights for TFN were redirected to TFS Reina Sofia when winds started.

Otherwise, the storm was generally no big deal.

Many a flock of birds had a ball and gave an air show of bravery and skills under Tenerife skies during the latest windy La Longuera Tenerife North hours. They wouldn't have been there under extreme weather in Tenerife.

Now, much needed Tenerife and Canary Islands rains have set in and the feathered artists went into hiding.

Tenerife weather la Victoria, el Souzal, La Laguna and Santa Cruz:

I spoke to my friend in La Victoria. It was windy there but not extreme. I spoke to Hartwig, the owner of the wood house. There, no abnormal winds were experienced by El Sauzal.

A huge grua construction crane in the capital Santa Cruz Tenerife was bound to break and became a weather danger to traffic, they reported in TV.

TV also spoke of La Laguna messed up with palm leaves which littered a street. At least, nobody will have to climb palms to cut them off...

Tenerife rains:

However, the biggest Canary Island without rivers needs the rains. Right now, I for my part, I refuse to see more storm danger despite orange alert for the Canary Islands.

Why?

My photo Tenerife weather forecast where skies are gray like fog My photo Tenerife-weather-forecast with hardy balcony plants which were secured in a more protected spot on my veranda shows a big rainy front on the horizon by November 30, 2010. The gray weather wall is unlikely to let through any winds. It makes me feel sure that any danger of gale force winds is over. I would go as far as taking that picture for a good Tenerife weather indicator. Indeed, see it as a positive December 2010 14 day weather forecast for Tenerife as well as most Canary Islands...The rainy season sprinkled with much Tenerife sun is here to stay.

Tenerife temperature December by Puerto de la Cruz

Temperature December Tenerife North:

Look at the 29 degrees Celsius Tenerife temperature December 05, 2010 by Puerto de La Cruz in La Longuera. The depicted thermometer hangs outside on my neigbour's balcony wall in the shade. The time was about noon on this Sunday on a windy December day. The inside temperature in my own apartment holiday home Tenerife showed 22 Degrees Celsius in the shade at the same time.

Winds with heavy rainfall had been predicted, a few days ago. The bad weather in Tenerife might be delayed. It most probably will not last long either. This is just to show how warm the winter climate stays on the biggest of all Canary Islands despite temporary odds.

Crazy rains and crazy winds in Tenerife:

Mind heavy rains caused by storm weather in Tenerife which however usually don't last long are more normal at the beginning of a year...

Coming to think of it there were extreme rains in November 2009 in Tenerife. The date was almost the same, by the way. Volcanic rocks, carried by flooding water made the news then.

Weather and farming:

By the way, I missed an appointment with a farmer in Icod del Alto because of the scary wind weather in Tenerife. Later the man told me that he had lost his potato crop by the ferocious winds. 'Es asi', he said.'No se puede hacer nada'. That means translated: That's it, nothing can be done." This remark by a local shows that life just goes on for Tenerife agriculture, never mind bad weather surprises to crops.

Wind abducted chicken on Tenerife farm:

There was a man on the bus toninght with us who said that the wind blew away some chicken on a farm. He was asked where to and the answer was: "Probably to the ocean". Quite a lot seemed to end up there.

And tomorrow or pretty soon my unbelievable Tenerife sun may grace again all the Canary Islands with normal temperatures around 24 degrees Celsius in December 2010.
Within the next days, plenty cheap flights Tenerife will arrive again on Tenerife airports without any delays caused by dangerous weather.

Does anybody want to bet against this prognosis?

The mystery of Tenerife curbed road lamps:

If it wasn't for the good weather in Tenerife , its clear skies and a historic astro physics event and Roques de los Muchachos none of the funny bent street lamps may be around on most Canary Islands.

From weather in Tenerife to Tenerife holidays which is not about hotels, accommodation and flights, for a change.
